As of the second quarter of 2020, Facebook had over 2.7 billion monthly active users making it the biggest social network worldwide.
Facebook boasts of having an audience of around 9.50 million users in Kenya. Meaning that you have the potential to reach so many people on the platform and boost your sales.
This is why building a Facebook following is important for connecting with potential customers.
Here are Five simple steps to help you increase your following on Facebook.
- Cover basics
Basic things are often overlooked simply because sometimes we focus on the bigger things forgetting the basics that can help us achieve the bigger things. Don’t start posting yet, start by first providing all your business information, call to action button ” Learn more” and link your website, WhatsApp or other social media pages.
When you have covered all these basics you can now start posting great content.
- Invite people to like your page
The easiest way to begin building an audience is to start inviting your colleagues, friends and email contacts to like your page.
On Facebook, when a friend likes a page, it often pops to the newsfeeds of their friends too meaning that more people will see your page increasing your brand visibility. Also, you can invite your Facebook personal profile account to like your page.
- Collaborate with and tag influencers in your industry
Tag pages of influencers in the same field and ask them to do the same for you, which will help you get your page off the ground. Gaining page likes from influencers or bloggers will also have a positive impact on your brand credibility.
- Produce quality content
Start sharing quality content on a regular basis once your fan base begins to grow. But also avoid being overly-promotional, remember nobody wants to be sold to every time. People follow you to gain something so make sure you give them exactly what they are looking for.
This will help you increase engagement and traffic.
- Carry out Page Likes Campaigns (Paid Advertising)

Below are some tips that will help you grow your business on Facebook.
Build a custom welcome page
The first step of accomplishing digital marketing on Facebook is to create a Facebook business page.
You need to customize your page so that it effectively represents your brand or company. You can do this by putting an attractive profile picture, a call to action button, about section, contact, engaging timeline and links to your website or blogs.
Use photos and videos
Upload photos and videos of your products. People always want to see visuals of what they are buying, you cannot sell to people without them seeing how the product looks like. Videos can help people understand how to use certain products or to display a product.
Relevant content and consistent posting
If your Facebook page is dealing with fashion let it be just fashion. Ensure that you post consistently on your page. Digital marketing always requires you to keep your page engaged. You can do this by ensuring interactions through replying to people’s enquiries and asking them relevant questions. Facebook advertising in Kenya requires you to show people that you are available and active.
Advertise on Facebook
Facebook allows you to advertise using Facebook ads and sponsored stories. This will help you target the people that are likely to buy your product this could be according to gender, age or location. Doing this will get your page out there.
Monitor your page
Facebook just like Instagram allows you to see engagements on your post, your post reach, your page review among others through insights. As you monitor you are able to analyze if your page is doing well or not. It will also help you know what kind of posts are attracting more people and which ones are not. This is going to help you achieve your Facebook advertising goals
Join Facebook groups
Join Facebook pages that are relevant to your industry and participate in them. If you are in the fashion industry, join fashion groups and be active on them, the more you participate the more people recognize you and they will start looking for your page to see what you do or sell. You can also promote your content there.
Start your own Facebook group
Start your own Facebook group if you find that there is none that suits your kind of business. Add members from your Facebook friends and ask them to recommend their friends. In the group create discussions, post articles and make the page lively. People will recognize you as the leader of that group and you can be advertising your business there from time to time so that people do not feel like it is an advertising group.
Reward your followers
People always want to feel appreciated therefore; you can be giving offers to your customers, discounts on items or gifts.
Facebook advertising in Kenya is important for your business if you want to reach more people. Facebook has the highest number of users in Kenya so utilize it to advertise your products or services.
HOW TO FIND OUT YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT IS CLONED
Facebook Cloning
Facebook for the past few days has sparked fear on users over cloning as users send messages trying to convince their friends to not accept any additional requests. This has been happening a lot over the last couple of weeks on Facebook in Kenya and across the world.
What is FACEBOOK CLONING?
This is a technique in which scammers create a fake Facebook profile by using images and other information stolen from a targeted users’ real Facebook profile. They try to ensure that the profile created is completely identical and genuine as the original one.
This process is not hacking nor does the scammer have access to the victims’ real Facebook account, they have simply copied public available information and images and used them to create a new profile.
Their main aim after creating the profile is to send scam messages so as to start requesting for advance fee scams asking for help or that they are stranded. The victims friends will genuinely accept their friend request unknowingly thinking the user unfriended them or is opening a new account.
How can you protect your Facebook account from cloning?
This can be difficult to implement as chances are high that if you’re a target victim you can still be cloned. But you could prevent this if not yet cloned by:
- Use privacy information that hide as much information as possible from strangers, check and change privacy related settings via the privacy settings and tools section
- Ensure you hide your friends list ,if the scammers can’t see your friend list they will not be able to send fake invites to your friends.
This can be done manually :–
- open your profile and click on the friends tab
- click the pencil icon on the right side
- Clicks edit privacy. Select only me in the drop down list as a viewer of your friends
- Before accepting any new requests from an old Facebook friend first recheck your friends list and see if the person is still your friend. Then alert your friend so he/she can take the necessary steps to stop it from occurring to other victims
- If your account has already been cloned report the Facebook account to Facebook and let all your friends know of the cloning attempt
- Check who can see your photos: scammers tend to steal public photos displayed for public view, hide your current profiles and images. You could change the settings to friends viewing or only you in some of the albums you wish to keep private.
If every Facebook user was aware of how Facebook cloning scams work and how to protect themselves, the prevalence and impact of cloning would be greatly diminished or even eliminated. Sadly, that’s not going to happen anytime soon. Nevertheless, you can certainly help by ensuring that your friends know about cloning. If necessary, take the time to explain the issue and help them with their Facebook settings. Sending them a link to this Knowledge Guide might be a great first step.
Facebook Pages Can Now Join Facebook Groups
Your Facebook Page can now join Facebook Groups as members, something that was only possible for individuals until now.
Facebook has recently added a new setting in Groups for admins to allow Facebook Pages to join their Groups.
The new feature was spotted by Mari Smith and shared on Twitter by Matt Navarra:
Until now, only individual users could join Facebook Groups, post and comment within them. This was an issue for many public figures, publishers and charities – which often use Pages instead of personal profiles.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed the new feature, saying: “We’ve heard from people that engaging with public figures, non-profits, publishers, and businesses in a more intimate setting can be meaningful. We previously launched the ability for Pages to start Facebook Groups so that they can engage with their communities. We are now testing the ability for Pages to join existing Facebook Groups as well.”
As pointed out, the new setting is being tested, and may not yet be available to all Groups.
Many Facebook Pages stand to benefit from this new feature, giving them access to new communities they were kept away from until now. It should immediately have a positive impact on engagement levels within Groups as well, as Pages will now be able to like and comment on on-going conversations with its members.
Have you seen the new setting in your Groups?
Facebook has been reducing the number of people who can view your content on pages, enticing you to pay for adverts to increase your reach. It has also been showing more interest in groups and encouraging people to get into groups they can relate to. They basically want us all to join groups. Facebook pages in Kenya are so many, Facebook groups are less but growing.
Its a high time you develop a group around what you sell on Facebook, and form a community to easily connect to people, share ideas and grow your business.

10 Steps for free leads on Facebook…
Facebook Page Marketing
Facebook is a really cool place, partly because everyone is there. If you are trying to put a targeted group of people on your list, they are there too.
So how do you pull those people out of facebook and put them on your list? Here is one way that won’t cost you a dime:
Step 1. Create a facebook page for your lead magnet (an article your target clients can find valuable). Be sure to link it back to your opt-in and utilize the advertising space of your facebook page’s cover picture to promote that lead magnet.
Step 2. Create a post on your page about your lead magnet, include a link, and pin that post to the top.
Step 3. Link your facebook profile to your lead magnet facebook page by changing where you work to your facebook page.
Step 4. Next go ahead and change your facebook profile cover picture to promote your lead magnet and your lead magnet facebook page.
Step 5. Join about 5 to 10 facebook groups that are related to your niche and have at least 1,000 members. Make sure these groups are active.
Step 6. Dedicate 5 minutes a day to each of these groups. Just be a part of the group. Like, comment, and post niche related questions and content in the group.
Step 7. Any positive interaction with other people in the group (i.e. liking your posts, commenting on your posts, you liking someone elses post) then friend request that person. Friend request 5 to 10 people a day. No more than that.
Step 8. Do simple facebook livestreams a few times a week, or if you don’t want to do that, post content on your profile a few times a week. Make sure this content has entertainment value, actionable content and pitches your lead magnet.
Step 9. Once a week, invite all your friends to like your lead magnet facebook page.
Step 10. Periodically create a facebook event for your lead magnet and invite all your facebook friends to attend. Be sure to include the link to your lead magnet opt-in page.
That’s it. This little system will get targeted people on your friends list, they will in turn see your live streams and/or content, and then in turn join your email list. It works great.
Go forth and crush it!
That’s it for today. Be sure to take action on these strategies and tactics we are talking about. The best laid plans fall to nothing if no action is taken.
